When someone has dementia, everyone who loves them feels it.

You don’t have to face it alone.

Local Compassion is a supportive community in North County San Diego
for caregivers, family, and friends walking the dementia journey together.

When dementia enters your life, it changes everything.

Caregivers get overwhelmed. Distant family members carry guilt. Friends and loved ones feel helpless. And sometimes, after loss, grief lingers heavy.

There are wonderful nonprofits and resources out there — but what’s often missing is a consistent, local group of familiar faces who meet regularly, share openly, and walk the road together.

Local Compassion is designed to be that safe, steady place.

Here’s what you’ll find when you join:

  • Weekly small-group video calls
Not a giant webinar or drop-in forum — but a consistent, structured call where you can connect, share, and listen in small breakouts. Each call has a simple format so you know what to expect and can feel safe showing up. Calls are every Wednesday at 6pm.

  • Local guest speakers + trusted resources
Each month, we invite voices you can trust — nurses, social workers, elder law attorneys, hospice professionals, and more — to share insights and answer questions. These aren’t paid sponsors; they’re local experts here to help.

  • Monthly in-person meetups
Casual gatherings at coffee shops, parks, or happy hours to build real friendships and share stories beyond the screen.

  • An online community
A private space where members can ask questions, swap experiences, and stay connected between calls and meetups.

  • Local-first, authentic support
We’re not backed by advertisers or driven by referral fees. Just neighbors supporting neighbors with compassion, honesty, and heart.

FAQ's

Q: Who is Local Compassion for?

A: Anyone touched by dementia — caregivers, family members near or far, friends, even those grieving after loss. If you love someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s, there’s a place for you here.

Q: Do I have to speak or share on the calls?

A: Not at all. You’re welcome to just listen until you feel comfortable. Many people find value simply by being present.

Q: Can professionals (nurses, care homes, hospice) join?

A: Yes — as long as they’re here to support, not sell. We clearly label professionals so you know who’s in the room, and no one is allowed to solicit services.

Q: Why is there a $14/month fee when some groups are free?

A: Great question. Free groups (like Facebook or national nonprofits) absolutely have their place — and we encourage people to use every resource available.

But here’s what we’ve learned: free doesn’t always mean dependable. Those groups can be hit-or-miss… sometimes supportive, sometimes overwhelming, and often lacking structure or consistency.

Local Compassion is different. Your $14/month helps us:

- Create weekly Zoom gatherings with a clear, respectful structure

- Bring in local experts (nurses, social workers, elder law, hospice)

- Host monthly in-person meetups right here in North County

-Maintain a safe, ad-free community with no selling or hidden agendas

It’s not about paying for support — it’s about sustaining a consistent, authentic space that you can count on, week after week.

For less than the cost of two coffees, you’ll have a circle of people who understand, local resources you can trust, and a place that feels like home. 💙

Q: What if I can’t make every call?

A: That’s okay. Life is full — come when you can. The consistency of Local Compassion means we’ll be here when you need us.

Q: When are the Zoom calls?

A: Calls start promptly at 6pm PST every Wednesday
